History of religious orders
The call to the radical following of Christ and total surrender to the Lord who has appeared in humble human form are the elements that mark Christian Religious Life. Strict ascetic life has been in existence right from the beginning of Christianity, and the close spiritual and material unity of the Primitive Church has always remained exemplary. The prominent role of women in the ascetic movement right from the beginning is remarkable.
The religious and spiritual assessment of the world at various times and under changed circumstances has played a decisive role in the concrete shaping of Religious Life. Thus, the world has been seen as the place of love of God (affirmation of the world) as well as the place of enmity against God (rejection of the world). 18.06.2008, 12:56, more »
